Safer Internet Day
11th Feb is #SaferInternetDay, a global awareness campaign aimed to create a safer and more inclusive space online
Online risks such as cyberbullying, image-sharing, and other harmful interactions are a real concern for young people in sport. In particular, there has been a noted increase in online child-on-child abuse which can include harassment, pressure or coercion to send sexual images, emotional harm and grooming.
That’s why we’ve created the ‘Staying Safe Online’ guidance to help supporting keep young people safe.
Here are some key points from the guidance:
Protect your privacy: Avoid sharing personal information such as mobile numbers, email addresses, or home addresses online.
Appropriate Communications: adults who work or volunteer with children should communicate with those under 18 years via parents/guardians. This includes staff or volunteers under 18 years old.
Appropriate Interactions: Adults who work or volunteer with children should not accept friend requests or engage in direct communication with under 18's on social media platforms.
Online Child-on-Child abuse: Speak to your child about appropriate online behaviours and where they can go to seek support.
Report Concerns: Speak up if something makes you uncomfortable—contact your Welfare Officer or you can log a concern with the LTA safeguarding team here:
