8U County Cup Report

On Sunday 28th April, Cambridgeshire took part in the 8U County Cup. Cambridgeshire having 2x Boys & 2x Girls Teams.

Boys A
Leon, Zoran, Gabriel, Gyuwon

A tough first match vs Berkshire drawing 3-3 in matches and losing tie by only 2 points.

2nd match was against our very own Cambs B, with some thrilling matches especially the 10-9 doubles into Gabriel M & Mohammed.

3rd was vs Oxfordshire, winning all 4 singles, but the doubles were exiting, Leon & Zoki losing a close 10-9 match, but more impressive was the perfect performance from Gabriel & Gyuwon winning an impressive 10-0!

Then they took on a very strong Herts A team, the boys were up for this knowing how strong Herts were and with that determination they completed a clean sweep winning 6-0 in matches with very focused wins especially for Leon & Zoki!

Final match for the Cambs A boys was Herts B, who showed huge fight with us just taking the tie 4-2!

Boys B
Julian, Sebastian, Gabriel, Mohammed

Herts B were first and what a match it was, 3-3 in matches, with Cambs taking the win on points, very important 10-9 win for Gabriel M showing composure on the 9-9 sudden death.

2nd matches were all Cambs affair, with the boys losing out to the A team.

Match 3 was vs Berkshire and although losing 5-1, matches were very close with boys giving their all.

Match 4 was Oxfordshire again losing by narrow margins, losing 3 matches at 10-8 shows only a couple points here and there.

Final match was vs Herts A, with this being the last match of the day, the boys knew a big performance was needed if they were to get into the medals, they delivered with a fantastic 4-2 win!

Girls A
Amira, Ayra, Elodie, Lucia

Cambs Girls A started in style with a strong 6-0 win against Berkshire, great energy & focus shown by each individual.

Match 2 was the Cambs vs Cambs girls with 3 tight matches at 10-9 it was closer than the score suggests, stand out performance Zosia beating Arya 10-2.

Match 3 was against Oxfordshire, with the singles leaving the tie 2-2, the doubles become everything, both Cambs pairs showed teamwork & superiority in doubles tactics to take the tie 4-2.

Then it was the Herts A team, who were very strong and showed in the result with a 3-3 tie and Cambs only taking the win by 3 points, that’s why the message of the day was “EVERY POINT MATTERS”

Last match was Herts B, the girls although becoming tired after a long day, finished the day with a strong 5-1 win!

I think it’s important to shout out Amira for winning every single singles & doubles, never easy especially at number 1.

Girls B
Naomi. Zosia, Athena, Charlotte

Cambs Girls B started with a tough match vs Herts B, winning 4-2 again showing why we’ve practiced so many doubles.

After the Cambs vs Cambs match was Berkshire winning 5-1 in an incredibly high-level set of matches, our girls again stepped up in the doubles.

Then they took on Oxfordshire with 3 10-9s, going each way the draw was tied at 3-3, with Oxfordshire winning by only 4 points, great work though girls.

The final match was Herts A, who just had a little more in the tank winning 4-2 with margins again so small.
