Who’s who at Cambs Tennis
Like many organisations, Cambridgeshire LTA have a team of dedicated employees and volunteers who assist with the running of tennis activities within the County. Below are details of each of our 'teams' who aid in the delivery of our activity.
If you are unsure where to direct your enquiry, please call Lucy Ranner, our administrator on 07464 049654 or email admin@cambstennis.org.uk for assistance.
Cambridgeshire Tennis is a county tennis association which is a member of the LTA, the National Governing Body for Tennis in Great Britain. The Association is generally known as Cambridgeshire Tennis and is currently unincorporated. Voting members are clubs within the County that are registered with the LTA. Schools, other educational establishments, and parks registered with the LTA and located within Cambridgeshire are also supported by the County but are not voting members. The management of Cambridgeshire Tennis is overseen by a volunteer Management Committee elected annually by its Members. The Management Committee in turn oversees several committees responsible for specific aspects of County Tennis as well as all remunerated roles required to support the work of the Association.
The vision and mission of Cambridgeshire Tennis are aligned with those of the LTA: Tennis Opened Up; to grow tennis by ensuring it is relevant, accessible, welcoming and enjoyable. The Association works closely with the LTA to promote and deliver agreed strategies and carry out specific responsibilities at County level. We value diversity and inclusion, and encourage people from all backgrounds and experiences to apply to join Cambridgeshire Tennis, to help broaden our perspectives in everything we do. We want our members to be advocates for equality in the role they hold and to embed equality, diversity and inclusion into all work and functions.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
I started as Chair in February 2024 to give something back to the sport that has given me so much.
My role is to ensure tennis is opened up to all in Cambridgeshire. A lifelong tennis player and fan, I have captained numerous county and club teams over the years and still love playing and competing. Outside tennis, I work in Data and Analytics, and have held senior roles in several organisations. I intend to bring some best practices from these organisations to Cambs tennis.
Outside work, I have 2 grown-up children and a husband who play tennis regularly, although we are rarely on the court at the same time!
A late comer to tennis, I have been playing and volunteering since 2007. I currently captain Cambridge LTC Ladies 4th team and volunteer as the LTA Councillor for Cambridgeshire.
The role of Councillor is to support and promote the LTA Values and the delivery of the LTA Vision, mission and strategic plan for tennis in Britain. Essentially, I am a link between the LTA and our county across all tennis activities, including competition, performance, participation and volunteering. I also help shape governance, funding and EDI in the county and support the fantastic volunteer tennis community in Cambridgeshire.
I have been involved in tennis for almost 40 years both as a county player and a parent of county players.
I am very passionate about sport and besides tennis enjoy skiing, playing hockey, golf and padel. After completing a Sport science degree at Loughborough University I taught P.E. and languages for a number of years before moving to the French Alps to set up a ski chalet business.
After having children, we moved back and returned to teaching before continuing with our skiing business which now includes tennis and golf holidays. I am Ladies Captain at Newmarket LTC and as an LTA Level 3 coach I enjoy helping out with the adult and junior coaching there.
I have been involved with tennis for over 30 years, as a player in the leagues and a parent of player who plays at a good level.
I am currently the chair of Cambourne Tennis Club alongside my role as Cambridgeshire Treasurer. The key thing in my role is to ensure we spend our money in a way that benefits all people in the County, from grass roots to performance players and ensuring that any expenses incurred by all that support tennis in Cambridgeshire are paid in a timely manner.
I work as an administrator for the safeguarding team at CRC where I have a strong understanding of the safeguarding policy and procedures. I am currently undertaking a level 2 qualification in safeguarding and prevent to further my learning in addition to degree level qualifications in criminology and other subjects.
I am deeply passionate about safeguarding and ensuring that all vulnerable people are protected from harm. Prior to safeguarding I was an assistant within the education sector which helped instil values of effective communication, quality information and collaborative team working. Outside of work I enjoy horse riding and video gaming.
I have been involved in performance tennis for 30 years but not as a player! I have played county badminton all my life, so I know what performance sport is like! My son Robin trained at Hills Road and represented Cambridgeshire in every age group and won many county trophies – I know what it is like being a tennis parent!
Karen (my wife) and I are very proud to have started and run Top Spin Tennis for the last 20 years – the only racket sports specialist retailer in East Anglia. I’m very keen to improve performance tennis in the county, getting everyone to work together to achieve common goals and making best use of IT and the vast knowledge and skills we have.
I’ve been Chair of the Participation Committee for just over 4 years. Our aim is to increase the number of people playing tennis across the county. This volunteer role has enabled me to meet and engage with many of the venues in Cambridgeshire (there are about 50 Clubs in our county). It’s been a great privilege to learn about the clubs and how they operate.
I’ve been an active volunteer at The City of Peterborough Tennis Club for the last 20 years and through this have experience in securing funding and delivering facility projects, developing tennis programmes in conjunction with the coaches, operating ClubSpark and cleaning courts – I enjoy the variety of volunteering activities!
My passion for this sport really sparked through me competing at college and university and has continued to this day to form my career.
I am currently Head Coach at Huntingdon Tennis Club and have had 7 years working in the sport. In this role, we hope to tackle some of the barriers women and girls face during their lives to increase the number of people who play tennis and who are competing. I'd love more women and girls to experience the joy of the sport which has impacted me and many others in such a positive way.
I came to tennis quite late and am a very limited but keen player. I served on the committee at Shelford for over 12 years. More recently I was on the committee at CLTC for 7 years and I still remain a member.
I have been the 'open court lead', promoting inclusive and disability tennis within Cambs since 2017. My social work background has helped me in this role. I liaise with Cambs clubs with this aim in mind and volunteer directly to support children and adults with learning disabilities. I also help at Visually Impaired tennis tournaments and promote tennis to disadvantaged or underrepresented groups such as children in the care system.
OTHER TEAM MEMBERS
I started as administrator for the County in 2021, as I was already administering the Performance Programme for Over & In at Hills Road, this seemed like a logical step as I already knew many of the parents who attend County Training.
My role has expanded and as well as being the main point of contact for Clubs and Players, I also administer the Cambs League.
By expanding my role to cover the County’s needs we also have Lisa on the team who is my right-hand woman and is also very knowledgeable on all aspects of Junior County Training.
I have been involved in tennis all my working life and have a passion for the game and helping young players fulfil their potential.
CV includes East Region Regional Coach/Development Officer, 12U Girls National Coach, GB World University Tennis Manager and Captain for 10 years and currently Cambs Junior Team Manager.
Produced several national age group champions and players who have represented GB.
Also, a Master Tutor delivering LTA Level 1, 2 and 3 courses and a Competition Organiser and Referee.
I started playing tennis aged 6 and have represented Bucks, Middlesex and Cambs at tennis and athletics at various stages of my life.
My tennis volunteering began in 2000 with 5 years as chair of Great Shelford Tennis Club. I was then “volunteered” for various marketing tasks for county tennis – a highlight raising over £500,000 to support tennis facility development.
After completing 7 years as LTA Councillor for Cambridgeshire, I have taken on the role of Seniors County Organiser. I aim to ensure players aged over 30 are aware of recreational and competition opportunities and that we have representative county teams in relevant seniors competitions. I also sit on the Seniors Tennis GB council.
Paul: After graduating with a BSc in Sports Science from Loughborough University I went onto qualify as a PE Teacher. I worked in a variety of PE Departments throughout the Midlands and in Cambridgeshire, before becoming the Director of Sport at one of the UK's largest secondary schools. I played team squash in County Leagues for many years before "finding" padel on a holiday in Spain in 2020.
John: Retired engineer and businessman. Still very active in many sports (skiing, snow boarding, golf) and more specifically racketball and squash (Cambridge Squash Club 2nd team captain and Committe member) as well as team tennis at CLTC. Discovered padel recently in Spain and believe in its potential as an easy to learn and enjoyable game for all.
I have been a tennis player and fan from an early age.
I played competitive tennis as a junior in South Africa, and as an adult league player in the Cambs League soon after arriving in the UK in the late 90’s, for both Great Shelford Tennis Club followed by Orwell Tennis Club.
I have carried out roles in both clubs as Ladies Captain and was also Chair of Great Shelford for a short time.
I joined the Cambridge League committee 5 years ago whilst it was under the stewardship of Vernon Dudley, and more recently have taken on the role as League Secretary.
I started playing tennis from a young age and have been hooked ever since. I’ve played Div 1 club tennis and coached professionally for a number of years in Worcestershire & Warwickshire. I hold a LTA Level 4 Qualification.
My core background is Sales & Marketing and I have been supporting counties, clubs and coaches with their social media and marketing activities for over 10 years.
I’ve been working with Cambs Tennis since 2021 and very much enjoy supporting the county with their social media and communications.
